We were driving to Cleveland at night and stopped at a rural service station for gas and snacks. The lone clerk looked pretty nervous as he saw two big black guys come in, leading a bunch of scraggly looking white guys. As we looked around the shop, a Leslie Gore song started on the radio, to which we started snapping our fingers and singing along. Given how we looked, it was absurd! I can't say that this exactly put the clerk at ease (probably thinking "WTF?") but he finally greeted us with "How you fellas doing?" I would guess that we were the equivalent of a UFO sighting.
